Al-Balad
سُورَةُ البَلَدِ
The City · 20 verses · Meccan
1
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
EN I swear by this city, Makkah -
FR Non!... Je jure par cette Cité!
ES ¡No! ¡Juro por esta ciudad,

وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
EN And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city -
FR et toi, tu es un résident dans cette cité -
ES en la que estás avecindado!
3
وَوَالِدٍۢ وَمَا وَلَدَ
EN And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],
FR Et par le père et ce qu'il engendre!
ES ¡Por todo padre y lo que ha engendrado!
4
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ
EN We have certainly created man into hardship.
FR Nous avons, certes, créé l'homme pour une vie de lutte.
ES Hemos creado al hombre en aflicción.
5
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌۭ
EN Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?
FR Pense-t-il que personne ne pourra rien contre lui?
ES ¿Cree que nadie podrá contra él?
6
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًۭا لُّبَدًا
EN He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."
FR Il dit: «J'ai gaspillé beaucoup de biens».
ES Dice: «He consumido una hacienda considerable».
7
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
EN Does he think that no one has seen him?
FR Pense-t-il que nul ne l'a vu?
ES ¿Cree que nadie le ha visto?
8
أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ
EN Have We not made for him two eyes?
FR Ne lui avons Nous pas assigné deux yeux,
ES ¿No le hemos dado dos ojos,
9
وَلِسَانًۭا وَشَفَتَيْنِ
EN And a tongue and two lips?
FR et une langue et deux lèvres?
ES una lengua y dos labios?
10
وَهَدَيْنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ
EN And have shown him the two ways?
FR Ne l'avons-Nous pas guidé aux deux voies.
ES ¿No le hemos mostrado las dos vías?
11
فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ
EN But he has not broken through the difficult pass.
FR Or, il ne s'engage pas dans la voie difficile!
ES Pues nunca se ha puesto a subir la Cuesta.
12
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ
EN And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?
FR Et qui te dira ce qu'est la voie difficile?
ES Y ¿cómo sabrás qué es la Cuesta?
13
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
EN It is the freeing of a slave
FR C'est délier un joug [affranchir un esclave],
ES Es manumitir a un esclavo,
14
أَوْ إِطْعَٰمٌۭ فِى يَوْمٍۢ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍۢ
EN Or feeding on a day of severe hunger
FR ou nourrir, en un jour de famine,
ES Alimentar en tiempo de hambre
15
يَتِيمًۭا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ
EN An orphan of near relationship
FR un orphelin proche parent
ES A un pariente próximo huérfano,
16
أَوْ مِسْكِينًۭا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍۢ
EN Or a needy person in misery
FR ou un pauvre dans le dénuement.
ES A un pobre en la miseria.
17
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ
EN And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.
FR Et c'est être, en outre, de ceux qui croient et s'enjoignent mutuellement l'endurance, et s'enjoignent mutuellement la miséricorde.
ES Es, también, formar parte de los que creen, de los que se recomiendan mutuamente la paciencia y la misericordia.
18
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
EN Those are the companions of the right.
FR Ceux-là sont les gens de la droite;
ES Ésos son los de la Derecha.
19
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
EN But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.
FR alors que ceux qui ne croient pas en Nos versets sont les gens de la gauche.
ES En cambio, los que no creen en Nuestros signos, ésos son los de la izquierda.
20
عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌۭ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ
EN Over them will be fire closed in.
FR Le Feu se refermera sur eux.
ES Se cerrará un fuego sobre ellos.
